The Maison SHANG XIA, located in a colonial house of over a century old, brings together retail, art, culture and exhibition spaces within this building enclosed by cool red brick walls.
The three floors of the Maison have a simple white theme, and their mix of textures and styles recreate the freedom, comfort and pleasure of a true home.
The concept is a mix of 21st century contemporary Asian aesthetic with ancient Chinese culture and created a unique environment – clean, elegant, harmonious and seamless – to reflect the brand’s nature. Wood and sandstone werde used and combined with tech fiber and delicated white hexagons fabric draped over the entire interior. This hexagons fabric was heat-treated and shaped in Japan and comes between cloth and plastic, which can retain the softness of natural cloth and strength of shape-memory texture.
The first floor retail space is light and airy as a cloud; entering this contemporary space is like stepping out of the world and shedding off all its weight. Here visitors may browse the most wonderful furniture and craft objects, sit for a moment of tea, and savor the calm and comfort.
The second floor is presented as a lived-in home, delicately sculpted into inner quarters, reception room, study, living room and tea space. This physical form represents the grace and gentleness of the SHANG XIA lifestyle, and the perfect way to entertain honored guests.
The third floor exhibits a long scroll in Chinese ink on silk, Time. Filament, painted specially for the opening of the SHANG XIA Maison by the artist Pan Xi. The old wooden frame of the roof shapes an incense walkway and a suspended tea space. The scents of tea, incense and ink combine in a heady mixture, the collision of history, time and space.
