WHY IS THIS SHOP INTERESTING TO VIEW?

This impeccably designed bookstore in Sao Paulo looks to be basically made out of books. The front doors are functioning bookshelves and the walls are lined floor to ceiling with books wherever you look, including, um, in holes in the ceiling for extra space. Though this is one of the least conceptually bizarre bookshops the form-follows-function-follows-form design aesthetic is pretty exciting. The strongest identity element in Livraria da Vila bookstores was developed from the book: the shelves, the supports for the books. Made of dark wood, they cover walls, divide spaces and even become pivoting window displays and entry doors to the stores. The shelves embrace the reader, inviting to explore the book and the venue, in the fashion and mood of old bookstores and second-hand book shops.
