There are an increasing number of online/physical store cross-over concepts in the grocery sector, but few are quite as eclectic as a small German retailer which combines online shopping with the possibility of relaxation and a coffee in its cafe. They also combine the best of the "good old days" with the technology of the Internet age. Emmas Enkel is a multi-channel retail concept, where shoppers can either do their shopping in the small grocery shop or via the connected online shop. A third and rather appealing alternative is to buy from the connected lounge environment, which is equipped with iPads. Here shoppers can order and relax with a cup of coffee until everything is packed and ready to take away. As the next evolution of the concept, the retailer has added a QR code wall on the outside of the store, displaying more than 400 products ready to be ordered by scanning their codes customers using their smartphones.
