This concept, two-story store with a whitewashed exposed brick interior carries avant-garde clothing by Japanese designers and vintage treasures. The mission of the owner, Moon Rhee, was to showcase his own line DEAR: along with exquisite vintage pieces he’s acquired over the years by the likes of Junya Watanabe, Comme des Garçons, and Yohji Yamamoto. The store is about 25% vintage to 75% of Moon’s own label. The line is produced in Korea and Japan, and you can sense an almost fervent commitment to construction in the lines of a tailored backless vest or the easy flow of a textured sack skirt.
The basement is heaven for antique collectors: globes, frames, ceramics, decorations, and minimalist contemporary designs.
The store is a beloved destination for photographers and models working in the fashion industry, but you don’t need expert knowledge to appreciate Rhee’s avant-garde shapes. Black, white, polka dots, and plaid dominate the minimalist space along with a collection of vintage jewelry.
